SJVN Ltd (formerly Satluj Vidyut Nigam Ltd) today reported a 3.25% rise in its net profit to Rs 191.50 crore for the quarter ended December 31, 2010, over the same period a year ago.

The company had reported a Rs 185.46 crore net profit in the same quarter last fiscal, it said in a communique to the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE).

Total income of the company during the quarter stood at Rs 432 crore against Rs 395.20 crore during the quarter ended December 31, 2009.

The company said the forthcoming results may not be comparable, as its production depends upon water availability which varies throughout the year.

"As the generation of hydroelectric power is dependent on the flow of water which varies during various periods of the year, the result for the quarter may not be comparable with forthcoming quarters," SJVN Ltd said.

Shares of the company closed at Rs 21.15 apiece on the BSE down 0.47% from its previous close.
