After launching the new version of Rolls-Royce's convertible Dawn for the South Indian market for Rs 6.25 crore, Sven J Ritter, regional sales manager — South Asia said that in 2015, the company had reported sustained growth in India and was optimistic about 2016.
While declining to give India specific sales numbers, he said India is a significant market for the company and South India is biggest growing region in India.
"South India continues to be a very important area for Rolls-Royce. The region is both an economic growth driver for the country and an increasingly vibrant market for super-luxury goods. The tour of Dawn in the region signals our confidence in the potential of cities such as Chennai, Hyderabad and Kochi," he said.
Vasanthi Bhupathi, director for Kun Motoren, which is the exclusive dealer for South India, added that the drive force in South India is entrepreneurs — modern, young and vibrant customers — who travel the world.
She added that customers in the South are now more willing to experience the luxury since they have earned it.
The success of Dawn is helping to broaden the brand's audience into younger segments as well as appeal to more established customers. Its bold and contemporary design signals the transformation of the brand, yet retains all the hallmarks of Rolls-Royce excellence in craftsmanship and engineering, said Asia Pacific Regional Director, Paul Harris.
The new Rolls-Royce Dawn features 80% unique body panels and even new tyres as special fitment for the model, said Ritter.
Rolls-Royce's engineers have paid great attention to Dawn's roof, which delivers the silence of a Wraith when up and operates in just over 20 seconds at a cruising speed of up to 50km/h.
"The idea of creating a car like Dawn that can be used in comfort by only two adults on a day-to-day basis is anathema. In creating Dawn, we have accepted no compromise to the comfort and luxury of four adults who want to travel together at the pinnacle of style," he added.
Globally, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars achieved new sales volume record of 1,133 units in the second quarter (2015: 988 units; +14.7%). This performance was helped by a strong contribution made by the new Rolls-Royce Dawn. Worldwide sales for the six-month period totalled 1,684 units.
The company said the new Rolls-Royce Phantom will arrive in 2018.
