ABB, providers of power and automation technology services, has bagged an order worth $40 million (Rs177 crore) from PMC Project (I) to supply three new sub-stations for Maharashtra Eastern Grid Power Transmission Company Ltd (MEGPTCL). It has also bagged an order from Powergrid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL) worth $32 million (Rs141 crore) for construction of two transmission sub-stations in Gwalior and Indore.
The new 765 kilovolt (kV) and 400 kV sub-stations near Akola, Koradi and Tiroda in Maharashtra will transmit power from generation hubs to major centres where power is most needed, and also strengthen the regional transmission network. The project is scheduled to be completed by 2012, the company said in a release.
“This order supports the development of 765 kV power infrastructure, enhancing transmission capacity and efficiency to help meet the growing demand for power,” said Peter Leupp, head of ABB’s Power Systems division.
In addition to this order, ABB has also won an order worth $32 million (Rs141 crore) from Powergrid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL) to build two transmission sub-stations, to be located in Gwalior and Indore. The order was booked in the third quarter.
ABB’s turnkey project scope includes the design, engineering, supply and commissioning of the 765 kilovolt (kV) and 400 kV air-insulated switchgear (AIS) sub-stations. Major equipment supplied will include circuit breakers, current transformers, capacitive voltage transformers and protection equipment including surge arrestors as well as IEC 61850 compliant sub-station automation, control and protection systems.
The sub-stations are being developed under the ATS (associated transmission system) scheme to support the 4,000 Mw Sasan ultra mega power project, strengthening the regional transmission network in western India.
