Infrastructure solution provider Synfera Engineering and Construction today said it has bagged a contract from Mercedes-Benz for setting up the biggest paint shop unit in the country at Chakan in Pune.

"We have bagged a contract to set up the biggest paint shop of the country for Mercedes-Benz at Chakan, where we shall be providing all kinds of engineering services," Synefra E And C Vice President (Operations) Sanjeev Nakhasi told reporters.

"It is the second contract that we have bagged from Mercedes-Benz. In fact, we are also setting up the city bus building plant for them," he said.

Mercedes-Benz capex plan for the automotive paint shop is close to Rs 700 crore. The German auto major is setting up a bus body building unit at the facility in Chakan having annual production capacity of 700-900 units.

"The automotive paint shop is expected to go on stream over next 18 months," Nakhasi said.

"The capex side for our SEZ is $200 million," Nakhasi said.

"Since inception exports from all our three SEZs combined has crossed $1 billion mark," he said.

"Since the last quarter, two new units-Banco Products India And Persang OM Metals have been added to our Hi-tech engineering SEZ in Vadodara," Nakhasi said.

"In the next two quarters we are expecting to seal few deals for our Vadodara SEZ," Nakhasi said adding that they expect another USD 400 million investment to come up in the SEZ.

However, he did not divulge names of the prospective companies planning to set up units at Vadodara SEZ.

Regarding the expansion in Gujarat, the E and C firm plans to undertake projects for developing industrial infrastructure parks of over 1,500 acres size at Dholera, in Gujarat along the Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) stretch.
