Tata Motors has unveiled its new 'crossover' car Tata Xover at the Geneva motor show today.

Speaking to Business Standard from Geneva, V Sumanatran, executive directors, Tata Motors said " It is a concept car as of now,we will run in the concept phase for some time and try to gauge customer reactions before taking any decisions on a commercial launch."

A media statement issued by the company says that the styling and the engineering of the car has been done specifically for the European market, indicating as global launch for the car.

Ratan Tata, chairman of Tata Motors said at the Geneva Motor Show, " The Tata Xover demonstrates Tata Motors' desire and commitment to innovate and address new market segments."

The media release also says that the car will be available with various engine options, both in diesel and petrol and will come fitted with a Euro IV engine and Tata Motors' next generation power-trains. But Sumantran said that the car can also be fitted with a Euro III engine.

"Since the car will come with a Euro IV engine option it looks like Tata Motors will launch the Xover in India, Europe and other parts of the world simultaneously," said an industry analyst. The Euro IV norms have already been implemented in Europe but will come to India only by 2008-2010.

The exterior styling of the car has been done with inputs from the Italian design company IDEA which has worked with Tata Motors on the Indica.

The car which can be likened to Toyota's newly launched Innova comes with a blend of car and sports utility vehicle-like features. It can seat upto seven adults, measures 4.85 metres and comes fitted with state-of-the-art gadgets and gizmos.
