Tata Steel returns to profit of Rs 1,790 cr in Q1

Tata Steel today reported a consolidated net profit of Rs 1,790.19 crore for the April- June quarter of the fiscal.

The company had suffered a loss of Rs 2,238.53 crore in the corresponding period a year ago.

Total operating income of the steel giant stood at Rs 27,194.80 crore for the April-June quarter of the current fiscal, compared to Rs 23,292.31 crore in the year-ago period, it said in a filing to the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE).

On a standalone basis, the leading steel-maker registered a profit of Rs 1,579.39 crore for the June quarter, compared to Rs 789.83 crore in the same quarter of FY10.

Shares of Tata Steel today closed at Rs 519.80 on the BSE, down 0.12 per cent from the previous close.
