Consumers from Hyderabad have proven to be tech-savvy, yet again, when it comes to purchasing technology products online. Ranked as India’s sixth largest ecommerce hub by online market place, eBay India, Hyderabad had the highest share of domestic transactions of technology products (50 per cent). Besides, the pearl city had the most popular imports (45 per cent).
This, and many more fun facts were revealed in the India census 2011compiled by eBay India, which was released here on Wednesday. The India census, designed to throw light on online buying and selling behaviour in India, is based on an analysis of all buying and selling transactions on eBay from July 2010 till June 2011, in the top 20 ecommerce hubs, and 28 states and seven Union territories.
“In the latest census, Hyderabad emerged as the gourmet capital of India, garnishing India’s kitchen with the most sales of home appliances, besides keeping Indian women’s hair pampering with the most hair conditioners’ sales,” Vidmay Naini, head (international marketing), eBay India, told mediapersons here on Wednesday.
New Delhi lead the league of India's Top-5 ecommerce hubs, followed by Mumbai, Bangalore, Jaipur and Chennai, while Hyderabad was ranked as the country's sixth largest ecommerce hub.
eBay, which forayed into the Indian market in 2000, currently has more than 2 million users and 1.1 million Facebook fans. On any given day, eBay India has over 2 million live listings, across 2,000 categories.
Naini said electronic gadgets continued to rule the online shoppers’ wallet, contributing 50 per cent to all the domestic purchases. “Consumers and entrepreneurs from rural India are increasingly plugging into ecommerce. Over 1,267 rural hubs are transacting online with one out of 10 purchases from rural India as well as one out of every 20 sales from rural India,” he said.
Women shoppers, too, are increasingly getting addicted to shopping online, buying cosmetics, watches, fashion and fitness equipment online.
Over 45 per cent of all purchases are in the lifestyle category, Naini added.
