Tektronix Communications works on Big Data for Indian telecos

Says industry is expecting the new govt to review the current telecommunication policies across the board within the next six months

Tektronix Communications has said it is assisting Indian telecoms operators with Big Data Analytics to support its major customers as they plan to roll out 4G network in the coming years.

"We are working with major Indian telecom operators to gather and analyse data which will support the country's major telcos as they plan to rollout 4G service," Mike Ropicky, vice president for Asia Pacific at Tektronix Communications, a subsidiary of New York-listed Danaher Group, told PTI.

Describing India as a mega telecom market, Ropicky said the industry is expecting the new government to review the current telecommunication policies across the board within the next six months.

The current regulatory environment has been challenging for telecommunication network development, he added.

In preparation for this, the telecoms intelligence provider is building actionable intelligence for operators throughout the region and would be offering a complete "4 dimensional view" of their Indian customers' mobile networks.

Using solutions which give deep insight into subscribers, and the services and applications they use, Tektronix Communications would assist each telco to optimise the deployment of their 4D services and the customer experience their users enjoy.

"We will provide in-depth information to support telcos in locating their 4G services across India as they look to serve corporations and high net worth individuals who use data on their mobile phones," he said.

"There will be a big change in the way Indian telecom network operates in the coming five-years," Ropicky said.

India is likely have two types of mobile/telecoms services in the coming years, he added.

The high-end users of heavy data transmission would pay an affordable market price for 4G services, while the low-cost mobile phone users, including the pre-paid services, would continue to enjoy 2G services as they are doing currently.

"We believe mobile phone-based banking and electronic- payment systems will also take off in India in the coming years, and some of the country's leading telcos have been trying this out with some financial institutions," he said.

Gaurav Mohan, the country manager for Tektronix Communications in India, added: "The 4G and fibre optic networks will form the basis of the new telecommunication systems in India beginning with the building of the smart cities."

Major telcos have already rolled out fiber optic network in most major cities, according to Mohan.

Mohan pointed out that communication networks would be an integral part of the layout for the smart cities such as Dholera, the first of several cities planned under the mega Delhi-Mumbai Corridor project, which was being accelerated as part of the massive development of the Indian infrastructure.
