Telcon factory on track at Kharagpur

Even as the twin project, Nano, is in the middle of controversy, Telcon’s earth moving equipment factory in on course.

Rana Sinha, managing director, Telco Construction Equipment Company said that the first set of products would be rolled out next June. He was speaking on the sidelines of a Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) seminar on downstream steel industry.

The Tata group had announced the Nano and Telcon projects together.

Sinha said, the company had already constructed the boundary wall on the 250 acres in Kharagpur.

The project also includes a vendor park, which would come up on 90 acres.

He said, there would be 15 vendors including Wipro, which is also into industrial automation.

The entire project would be completed by 2012.

Sinha said, there were initial delays in getting the land but now the project was on course. The project would create employment for around 1,000 people.

Telcon would start recruiting from the ITIs from October. The company also plans to set up an institute for training equipment operators.

Not just Telcon, another project from the Tata group appears to have made some progress.

Tata Metaliks, which has been awaiting land from the state government for the last three and a half years for its diversification project.

Harsh K Jha, managing director, Tata Metaliks said, notification for the remaining land had been issued a couple of weeks back.

The company needs around 300 acres in Kharagpur.

The West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation (WBIDC) has already acquired 200 acres.
