The Tamil Nadu government today cleared five projects worth Rs 2,450 crore and would generate over 17,000 direct jobs. The government also announced incentives to industries which will generate employment in rural and developed areas.
After meeting with Industries Department officials on Sunday M K Stalin, who took over as the new Deputy Chief Minister and State Minister for Industries along with other portfolios on Friday cleared five investment projects include Ford India (engine plant and the second phase of expansion), Cheyyar SEZ Developers (footwear manufacturing facility by Feng Tay group), Saint Gobain (expanding its float glass capacity), Delphi-TVS and Gangotri Textiles. These projects are expected to create over 17,000 jobs directly.
Stalin also cleared proposals to establish Country Specific Industrial Parks of 100 acres for investors from Japan , Korea , Finland , Germany and France in Vallam, Vadakkal and Poodanur villages in Sriperumbudur. A proposal to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Kanakawa Prefecture of Japan was also cleared. The MoU will boost investments from Japan , according to the state government’s release.
The release further added, a new proposal was cleared which will give incentives that create employment. “This would go a long way in encouraging employment intensive industries and generation of more employment opportunities in the state."
"Government is planning to offer incentives to companies or industries that generate more than 750 jobs in rural areas and 1,500 jobs in industrially developed areas”, according a government official.
Stalin also cleared a Rs 408-crore rehabilitation package for two sugar mills including Perambalur Sugar Mills and Tamil Nadu Sugar Corporation.
