Riding high on the festive cheer, two-wheeler makers such as Hero Honda, TVS Motors, Yamaha, Honda and Mahindra posted a 16 per cent rise in sales at 736,698 units in November as against 633,323 units sold in the same month last year.
Anil Dua, senior vice-president (marketing & sales), Hero Honda Motors, said: “It has been an all-round contribution from all the segments towards our growth — entry, deluxe as well as premium and also from the scooter segment. With unrelenting market demand for our products, we anticipate maintaining this buoyancy."
Meanwhile, domestic two-weeler sales of Chennai-based TVS Motors grew by 31 per cent to 139,541 units during the month, as against 106,836 sold in the same month a year before.
Scooter sales of TVS increased by 44 per cent, at 36,233 units in comparison with 25,115 units registered in November 2009. Motorcycles sales grew 40 per cent, with sales of 62,995 units as against 45,080 units recorded in November 2009.
Sales of Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India rose to 129,627 units, an increase of 14 per cent as compared to 113,489 units last year. Scooter sales stagnated at 69,601 units for the reporting month, as against 69,397 units sold in the corresponding month a year earlier. Motorcycle sales grew 36 per cent to 60,026 units, as compared to 44,092 units.
Sales of India Yamaha Motors grew by 23 per cent to 30,310 units in November, as compared to 24,600 units during the same month a year earlier. In the domestic market, the company sold 22,710 units as against 17,055 units in the same month last year, 33 per cent more.
H Suzuki, the new managing director and CEO of India Yamaha Motor, said, “Our premium segment bikes such as the FZ series and YZF-R15 are doing very well. Our commuter SZ bike and entry-level YBR 125 and YBR 110 bikes also continue to grow. We expect our strong showing to continue in the coming months.”
Mumbai-based Mahindra two wheelers stated today that its sales grew by 125 per cent to 15,854 units in November as compared to 7,020 units in the comparison month.
"We have also begun our motorcycle journey with the introduction of the Stallio in the market, which has been received well by our consumers. We are in the process of ramping up production to meet demand,” said Anoop Mathur, president, two-wheeler sector and member of the group executive board of Mahindra & Mahindra.
