Usha Brita, India's leading brand in water purification, today announced plans to increase market penetration in Uttaranchal.

The firm, a joint venture between Usha Shriram of the Shriram Group and Brita GmbH of Germany, will now double its target in this financial year.

"We were selling nearly 1,500 systems. From this year, we will be doubling our target to 3,000 in Uttaranchal," said Managing Director Anupam Bharat, while launching the new products here.

Stating that potable water in Dehra Dun was brackish and saline, Bharat said the company's new products were specially designed to improve the water quality.

Usha Brita products have always been available in Uttaranchal through direct sales. To entrench themselves further in the market, the company will now make their products available through the dealer network as well as through direct door-to-door sales.

Two new models, including RO system and UV purifier, will now be available through dealers. "All the remaining products will be available to consumers at their door step through a strong network of direct marketing team," Bharat said.

Stating that the decade 2005-2015 has been declared as international decade for action for safe water, Bharat said the government should give subsidy to water purifying companies so as to lower the price of the water purifiers.
