Race 2, the upcoming Bollywood action thriller, directed by Abbas-Mustan duo is going to get one of the biggest day and date release in over 50 countries on January 25.
Produced by UTV Motion pictures and TIPS, Race 2 is the first major release of 2013 and in order to expand its global reach, UTV Motion Pictures is looking at a simultaneous release in usual markets like US, UK, Gulf, Australia, Pakistan as well as non-traditional markets like Maldives, Morocco, Myanmar and Vietnam.
“We have seen unprecedented traction across international cinema chains and distributors for Race 2. We are subtitling the movie in Arabic, Thai, Bahasa, Malay, Vietnamese, Dutch and releasing it in more than 50 territories day and date with the release in India,” Amrita Pandey, Executive Director-Syndication, International Distribution & Disney Media Distribution, Studios, Disney UTV said.
“After many years a Hindi movie will see a simultaneous release in Morocco in 4 to 5 screens including theatres in Casablanca and Marrakech. Newer territories like Myanmar, East Timor, Maldives and Vietnam (with as many as 7 screens) are also in our release plan. We are firming up our release plans and screens and shows across markets,” she added.
Race 2 is a sequel to the 2008 hit film, Race, and stars an ensemble cast that includes Anil Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan reprising their roles from the previous film, while new entrants include Deepika Padukone, John Abraham, Jacqueline Fernandez and Ameesha Patel.
UTV Motion Pictures has been one of the first studios to enter Latin America with Guzaarish released earlier last year in Peru. In the past UTV and Aamir Khan Production's ‘Delhi Belly’ also had a mainstream theatrical release in Hong Kong.
