Volvo eyes 4.5% pie of Indian luxury car mart
It is targeting sales of 1,000 units this year (including 120 V40s) and 20,000 units by 2020
BS Reporter Chennai/ Hyderabad Swedish luxury car maker, Volvo Auto India (VAI), is aiming at garnering a 4.5 per cent share of the luxury car market in India this calendar year, according to managing director Tomas Ernberg.
"We are the fastest-growing luxury car makers in India now, taking our market share from 1 per cent in 2011 to 3 per cent last year. And, we continue to see that growth in future too. Our long-term goal is to corner a market share of 15 per cent in the luxury car segment in the country by 2020," he told mediapersons here on Monday.
Launching the V40 Cross Country car at the company's new cars service centre in Hyderabad, Ernberg said the company was increasing its dealership network to boost sales and increase its market share in India. "We will be opening new dealerships at locations like Kolkata and Visakhapatnam by the end of this year," he added.
Volvo Auto, which established its presence in India in 2007, has sold 850 units in India, as against 320 in 2011. It is targeting sales of 1,000 units this year (including 120 V40s) and 20,000 units by 2020, when the luxury car market is expected to touch 150,000 units.
V40 Cross Country, a compact luxury car in the premium C-segment, comes with a 2.0-litre cylinder, six-speed automatic transmissions with 150 horse power and fixed panoramic glass roof. The car is priced at 29.25 lakh, ex-showroom Hyderabad.
