IT services and business process company Xansa will double its headcount in India by the end of this year, and push up its total seat capacity in the country to 10,000 by mid-2004.

The $800 million company, which operates centres in Noida and Chennai, will open its Pune centre by April-May this year.

The company will invest £24 million for its expansion plan in India over the next 2-3 years.

Xansa currently employs 1,600 people. It will utilise full capacity of 15,000-20,000 seats, working in one-and-a half or two shifts, in another two or three years.

Saurabh Srivastava, executive chairman of Xansa India, said, "India is a strategic market for us in both IT and BPO services and we will recruit heavily in the coming years. We are hoping that India will account for nearly 50 per cent of our revenues in future."

Xansa employs 6,000 people globally across its centres in the UK, North America, Europe and Asia Pacific.

Earlier, Xansa India doubled its headcount from 800 in May 2003 to 1,600 now.

"Growth in the BPO area has been significant and now we operate ten discrete processes offshore for a number of different clients, up from one a year ago," said Alister Cox ,chief executive officer of Xansa.

The company recently tied up with Lawson, a provider of enterprise resource planning products, to maintain their systems globally. The initial period of the contract is three years.
