Even as the company has recently announced expansion plans with two new facilities to manufacture mobile phones in the country in future in collaboration with Foxconn, Chinese smart phone major Xiaomi is also planning to beef up its existing manufacturing facility in Sri City, near Chennai, said a company official.

Manu Jain, India head of Xiaomi told reporters in Chennai that the company is looking at expanding production from the Foxconn manufacturing facility in Sri City, an integrated business city at Tada, in Andhra Pradesh, which is close to Chennai.

However, he did not divulge any numbers related to the capacity expansion plans.

The company has recently revealed that it is looking at having two more facilities in the country, which would be run by Foxconn, for manufacturing, and said that it is in talks with various states for this.

Almost 75 percent of its smartphone units sold in India are produced in India and the company would require more capacity to meet the growing demand. The company, which claims to be one of the top players in the online sales market, has almost 90 per cent of its sales taking place online. It also has some offline presence and plans are to increase it over a period of time. The focus is also on increasing the number of service centres, including exclusive service centres, in the country, said Jain.
