Yashoda Hospital, Secunderabad, commissioned the first 16-channel, 1.5T high definition-extended (HDx) MRI system with motion correction technology, in south Asia on Wednesday.

"The HDx MRI system is much faster and the procedure requires just half the time," N Vijaya Bhaskar, director (radiology services), Yashoda Hospital, told mediapersons.

Inaugurating the Rs 5-crore MRI system, minister for revenue, rehabilitation and relief Dharmana Prasada Rao said the state would launch an insurance coverage scheme for all lower-income families in Ananthpur, Mahabubnagar and Srikakulam districts on February 24.

"The scheme offers insurance coverage of Rs 2.5 lakh for an individual who holds a white ration card, and we plan to extend the scheme to other parts of the state after assessing the response to it in the three districts," he said.

While lauding the initiatives being taken up by the Yashoda group, the minister appealed to the management to consider setting up a hospital at the Health City, an initiative of the state government at Adarshnagar in Visakhapatnam to promote health tourism.
