30% of urban seniors fear contracting coronavirus, shows survey

29 per cent seem impacted by social isolation due to lockdown curbs, 20 per cent not overly worried about getting infected; low insurance penetration among the elderly

Seniors are the most vulnerable sections of the society, hit hard by Covid-19. 

A survey, conducted by Antara, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Max India Pvt Ltd, finds that nearly 30 per cent of the respondents in urban India feared contracting the coronavirus, while 29 per cent seemed to be impacted by social isolation due to restrictions on account of the lockdown. 

However, over 20 per cent of the respondents noted that they were not overly worried about the pandemic or getting infected with the virus. 

There is also low  penetration of insurance among seniors, the majority of who live independently in own or rented houses. 

The survey was conducted across urban India, with a focus on the North (Delhi-NCR), the West (Mumbai and Pune), and the South (Chennai, Bangalore and Hyderabad). Seniors are taken as those who are aged at least 55 years.
