Bank branches, including new generation banks and gramin banks, were closed today in Kerala in view of the two-day strike called by the United Forum of Bank Unions.
CD Josson, general secretary, All Kerala Bank Employees Federation, said around 35,000 employees across the state had withdrawn from duties.
He said some branches, headed by the DGM level officers, were opened in the morning, but closed immediately as sub staff did not turn up.
The United Forum of Bank Unions, representing over 1 million employees and officers, has called for a countrywide strike on Feb 10-11. Their main demands are immediate wage revision and to stop reform measures in the sector.
