While increasing the amount of compensation paid for the crop damaged due to natural calamities, the state government had also decided to change the eligibility criteria. Earlier, the farmer whose 50 per cent crop was damaged was eligible for help. Now, 33 per cent crop damage would be the criteria for paying the compensation.
The farmers holding upto two hectares of unirrigated land would now be entitled to get compensation at the rate of Rs 6800 per hectare against the earlier slap of Rs 4500 per hectare, a state government spokesperson said. The decision was taken at the cabinet meeting held Tuesday afternoon. The compensation rate for irrigated land had been increased from Rs 9000 to Rs 13,500 per hectare.
Similarly, the farmers holding more than two hectares of land would be eligible for compensation for maximum 10 hectares provided 33 per cent crop damage due to untimely rains, flood or drought. The state government would provide compensation of Rs 13,500 per hectare for the crop damage.
The state government had also increased compensation paid to the kin of those killed in natural calamities. The compensation amount had been increased from Rs 150,000 to Rs 400,000. A common slab had been fixed for the pucca and kutcha houses damaged in the calamities. The affected house owners would now get Rs 95,100. Earlier, the government was paying Rs 70,000 for pucca house and Rs 17,600 for kutcha.
