Chhattisgarh to set up skill development centre in each district

The centres that would be modelled on one started in Dantewada would be known Livelihood Colleges

Chhattisgarh government had decided to set up skill development centres in each district of the state.

The centres that would be a model of the one started in Dantewada district would be known as Livelihood College. The institute would impart short term training to the youths to improve their skill in a particular trade.

The Industrial Training Institute (ITI) had been providing courses that require minimum a year to complete. The Livelihood College would take up the course that could be completed in three to six months.

Livelihood College had three objectives that include filling the drain of skilled and trained youth in different trades with the local youth, skill enhancing of the local youth who already possess to have a technical qualification and providing self employment and employment opportunities to the local youth through training and campus selections.

A government spokesperson said that the state cabinet Tuesday afternoon approved the proposal of setting up such colleges in each districts across the state. Chhattisgarh has 27 districts and respective District Collector would be the chief executive officer of the college.

In another cabinet decision, the state government had decided to take over the private college and university avoiding to admit the students qualified in the professional courses entrance exam.

The government would acquire such educational institutions and run for five years till the course had been completed.
