The cricketing fraternity extended their rich tributes to Virender Sehwag, who has officially bid adieu to all forms of international cricket on Tuesday.

Acknowledging the 37-year-old, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) wrote on Twitter, "Take a bow, Virender Sehwag. You brought joy to cricket lovers around the world. Wish you the best for the future."

Limited-overs captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni led the bandwagon of tributes to the former flamboyant opener.

"Didn't see Viv Richards bat in person but I can proudly say I have witnessed Virender Sehwag tearing apart the best bowling attacks," Dhoni tweeted.

"Pleasure to have played with you @virendersehwag bhai. What an amazing career. Thanks for the guidance and the memories. Modern day legend!," said India Test captain Virat Kohli.

Meanwhile, Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan described Sehwag as an original opener and congratulated him for his wonderful journey.

He made his Test debut against South Africa in 2001 and ODI debut against Pakistan in 1999.

He holds multiple records including the highest score made by an Indian in Test cricket (319) and the fastest triple century in the history of international cricket (he scored 300 in 278 balls).

The top-order batsman has scored 8,586 runs at an average of 49.34 in 104 Tests and has amassed 8,273 runs at an average of 35.05 in 251 ODIs.
