Cyclone Nada weakens, depression crosses north Tamil Nadu coast: Met Dept

State Government has asked district collectors and officials to make necessary arrangements to face any emergency

Weather Department said that the depression over the south-west Bay of Bengal crossed north Tamil Nadu coast near Nagapattinam between 4-5 am on Friday morning.

Meanwhile, the sky was clear and on Friday morning and there is no sign of rain. Schools remained closed for the second day, while offices and other businesses were as usual.

Till now, no causalities have been reported and public transportation is working as normal. State Government has asked all district collectors and officials to make necessary arrangements and be prepared round the clock for any emergency situation.

The weather bulletin said moderate rainfall at many places with isolated heavy rainfall is very likely over interior Tamil Nadu, and Kerala in next 24 hours. 

Light to moderate rainfall at many places is also likely over coastal Tamil Nadu and Puducherry in next 12 hours.

The department said wind speed could be 40- 60 km/h along and off Tamil Nadu and Puducherry coasts during next 12 hours.

The sea condition will be rough along and off Tamil Nadu and Puducherry coast and fishermen are advised not to venture in the sea for next 12 hours.
