Taking the cue from the police department, the website, developed by a Mysore-based software company, also offers ‘public eye’ space for those who want to share Dasara-related photos on the website.

Besides offering details of all Dasara-related activities, including programmes organised during the Dasara season both in English and Kannada every day, it will also have photos of all previous Dasara celebrations, including those celebrated by the Mysore royal family, of programmes and heritage buildings and videos of tourist spots.

An additional feature is the details about food and lodging covering a list of hotels and restaurants. Arrangements have also been made to respond online to those seeking information.

The minister asked the officials concerned to make Dasara procession attractive by including variety in the cultural troupes and tableaux to reflect the cultural diversity of the state.

Deputy Commissioner C Shikha, the Dasara Special Officer, said the Mandya and Chamarajanagar DCs had sought Rs 1 crore each for organising the celebrations in their districts. The second batch of the Dasara elephants will arrive in Mysore on September 10.

Co-operation Minister H C Mahadevaprasad suggested making use of the Railways and postal department for additional publicity for the Dasara. MLA Tanveer Sait said, circuit tours should be organised so that visitors can cover tourist spots in Mysore and the neighbouring districts.

This would also benefit tourists as it would be convenient for them to cover more places during their short stay. MLA Vasu suggested looking into the possibilities of golden glow LCD bulbs for better illumination and securing sponsorship for lighting during the period.
