DATA STORY: India adds 91,702 new cases, administers over 3 mn doses

India has so far administered 246,085,649 vaccine doses. That is 840.60 per cent of its total caseload, and 17.16 per cent of its population

India on Friday reported a net reduction of 46,281 in active coronavirus cases to take its count to 1,121,671. India’s share of global active coronavirus cases now stands at 9.08 per cent (one in 10). The country is second among the most affected countries by active cases. On Thursday, it added 91,702 cases to take its total caseload to 29,274,823. And, with 3,403 new fatalities, its Covid-19 death toll reached 363,079, or 1.24 per cent of total confirmed infections.
 
With 3,274,672 more Covid-19 vaccine doses being administered on Wednesday, India’s total count of vaccine shots so far reached 246,085,649. The count of recovered coronavirus cases across India, meanwhile, reached 27,790,073 – or 94.93 per cent of total caseload – with 134,580 new cured cases being reported on Friday.
 
With a daily increase of 91,702 in total cases, India’s tally of coronavirus cases has risen from 29,183,121 on Thursday 29,274,823 to– an increase of 0.3%. Death toll has reached 363,079, with 3,403 fatalities, an all-time high in daily spike. Now the second-most-affected country by active cases, total cases and recovery, and third by death, India has added 700,473 cases in the past 7 days.
India now accounts for 9.08% of all active cases globally (one in every 10 active cases), and 9.49% of all deaths (one in every 11 deaths).

Among Indian states, the top 5 in terms of number of vaccine shots administered are Maharashtra (30010289), Uttar Pradesh (26853208), Rajasthan (23585029), Gujarat (23412957), and West Bengal (21254719).
Among states with more than 10 million population, the top 5 in number of vaccine shots per one million population are Kerala (379999), Delhi (371219), Gujarat (366558), Uttarakhand (335482), and J&K (311670).
Backwards from here, the last 1 million cases for India have come in 10 days.
The count of active cases across India on Friday saw a net reduction of 46,281, compared with 63,463 on Thursday. States and UTs hat have seen the biggest daily net increase in active cases are Bihar (528), Sikkim (171), Meghalaya (166), Manipur (52), and West Bengal (17).
With 134,580 new daily recoveries, India’s recovery rate stands at 94.93%, while fatality rate increased to at 1.24%.
The Indian states and UTs with the worst case fatality rates at present are Punjab (2.63%), Uttarakhand (2.05%), and Nagaland (1.89%). The rate in as many as 18 is higher than the national average.
India’s new daily closed cases stand at 137,973 — 3,403 deaths and 134,580 recoveries. The share of deaths in total closed cases stands at 2.4%.
India’s 5-day moving average of daily rate of addition to total cases stands at 0.3%.
India’s doubling time for total cases stands at 220.9 days, and for deaths at 73.6 days.
Overall, five states with the biggest 24-hour jump in total cases are Tamil Nadu (16813), Kerala (14424), Maharashtra (12207), Karnataka (11042), and Andhra Pradesh (8110).
Among states with more than 100,000 cases, the five with worst recovery rates at present are Tamil Nadu (90.59%), Karnataka (91.12%), Kerala (94.56%), and Maharashtra (95.45%).
India on Thursday conducted 2,044,131 coronavirus tests to take the total count of tests conducted so far in the country to 374,242,384. The test positivity rate recorded was 4.5%.
Five states with the highest test positivity rate (TPR) – percentage of tested people turning out to be positive for Covid-19 infection (by cumulative data for tests and cases – are Goa (18.78%), Maharashtra (15.73%), Dadra & Nagar Haveli-Daman & Diu (14.42%), Kerala (12.86%), and Sikkim (12.46%).
Five states with the highest TPR by daily numbers for tests and cases added – are Kerala (13.45%), Sikkim (12.64%), Goa (12.52%),       Tamil Nadu (9.24%), and Nagaland (9.2).
Among states and UTs with more than 10 million population, five that have carried out the highest number of tests (per million population) are Delhi (1071158), J&K (664077), Kerala (585735), Karnataka (461703), and Uttarakhand (448553).
The five most affected states by total cases are Maharashtra (5876087), Karnataka (2739290), Kerala (2688590), Tamil Nadu (2308838), Andhra Pradesh (1787883).
Maharashtra, the most affected state overall, has reported 12,207 new cases to take its tally to 5876087. The state has added 129,195 cases in the past 10 days.
Karnataka, the second-most-affected state, has reported 11042 cases to take its tally to 2739290.
Kerala, the third-most-affected state by total tally, has added 14424 cases to take its tally to 2688590.
Tamil Nadu has added 16813 cases to take its tally to 2308838.
Andhra Pradesh has seen its tally going up by 8110 to 1787883.
Uttar Pradesh has added 596 cases to take its tally to 1701072.
Delhi has added 305 cases to take its tally to 1430433.
