The country on Saturday reported a net increase of 1,512 in active cases to take the number to 944,996. With 75,628 new cured cases, meanwhile, total recoveries reached 5,427,706, or 83.84 of total infections reported so far.
The second-most-affected country by active and total cases, and third by fatality, India has added 569,612 in the past seven days. Here are the key takeaways from the coronavirus data released by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) on Saturday (October 3, 2020):
- With a daily increase of 79,476 in total cases, India’s tally of coronavirus cases has risen from 6,394,068 on Friday to 6,473,544 – an increase of 1.2%. Death toll has reached 100,842, with 1,069 fatalities in a day. The second-most-affected country by total cases and active cases, and third by death toll, India has added 569,612 cases in the past 7 days alone.
- India now accounts for 11.96% of all active cases globally (one in every 8 active cases), and 9.76% of all deaths (one in every 10).
- Backwards from here, the last 1 million cases for India have come in 13 days.
- The count of active cases across India has seen a net increase of 2779, against 1512 on Friday. The states that have reported the biggest 24-hour jump in active cases are Kerala (5146), Maharashtra (1873), Karnataka (1574), West Bengal (313), and Rajasthan (135).
- With 75628 new daily recoveries, India’s recovery rate has improved to 83.84; the fatality rate remains unchanged at 1.56%.
- India’s new daily closed cases stand at 76,697 — 1069 deaths and 75628 recoveries. The share of deaths in total closed cases stands at 1.39%.
- India’s 5-day moving average of daily rate of addition to total cases stands at 1.3%.
- India’s doubling time for total cases stands at 56.1 days, for active cases at 235.4 days, and for deaths at 65.0 days.
- The states and UTs that have seen their biggest respective single-day spike in total cases today are Kerala (9258), West Bengal (3310), Rajasthan (2211), Manipur (286), and Meghalaya (231).
- Overall, five states with the biggest 24-hour jump in total cases are Maharashtra (15591), Kerala (9258), Karnataka (8793), Andhra Pradesh (6555), and Tamil Nadu (5595).
- Among states with more than 25,000 cases, the five with worst recovery rates at present are Kerala (63.30%), Chhattisgarh (74.16%), J&K (77.60%), Tripura (78.70%), and Maharashtra (78.91%).
- India on Friday conducted 1,132,675 coronavirus tests, and had a test positivity rate of 7.0%.
- Five states with the highest test positivity rate (TPR) – percentage of tested people turning out to be positive for Covid-19 infection (by cumulative data for tests and cases) – are Maharashtra (20.35%), Chandigarh (15.39%), Puducherry (14.31%), Goa (13.34%), and Karnataka (12.19%).
- Five states with the highest TPR by daily numbers for tests and cases added – are Goa (36.96%), Maharashtra (18.4%), Chhattisgarh (16.75%), Chandigarh (16.13%), and Kerala (14.41%).
- Among states and UTs with more than 10 million population, five that have carried out the highest number of tests (per million population) are Delhi (161080), J&K (126304), Andhra Pradesh (113911), Assam (104730), and Tamil Nadu (99434).
- The five most affected states by total cases are Maharashtra (1416513), Andhra Pradesh (706790), Karnataka (620630), Tamil Nadu (608885), and Uttar Pradesh (406995).
- Maharashtra, the most affected state overall, has reported a net addition of 15,591 cases. The state has added 173743 cases in the past 10 days.
- Andhra Pradesh, the second-most-affected state by total cases, has added 45,332 cases in the past seven days alone. On Saturday it added 6555 cases.
- Tamil Nadu, which has seen its tally going up by 5,595, has added more than 5,000 cases on each of the past 73 days.
- Karnataka has reported 8793 cases, to take its tally to 620630.
- Delhi has added 2920 cases to take its tally to 285672.
