Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the UN General Assembly today. He touched on variety of issues in his half an hour speech. Here are the highlights

Pakistan: The Prime Minister said that India was ready to have serious bilateral talks with its neighbour but not under the cloud of terrorism. He said that it was raising the Kashmir issue at the UNGA platform was unlikely to yield any results. Referring to the severe floods which ravaged the state of Kashmir, Modi said that helping the locals at this hour should be top priority and mentioned India’s offer to help the suffering on the other side of the Line of Control too.

Terrorism:  Taking off from his take on Kashmir and Pakistan, Modi stressed on global cooperation in tackling terrorism. He said that the whole world was suffering because of it and had finally woken up to realize that it was not a ‘law and order’ issue as said earlier. “Terrorism is taking a new shape and new name. No country, big or small, in the north or the south, east or west, is free from its threat," said Mr Modi

Trade and economy:  The Prime Minister called upon greater cooperation between the developed and the emerging markets for escalating development. He said that globalisation has given birth to several possibilities to eradicate economic problems very quickly. Hinting at India’s concerns about the WTO pact, he said that agreements on international trade needed to accommodate each other's concerns and interests.

Need for ONE platform: Modi had started his speech by saying that India wants growth for all. He criticised the multiform platforms which the world has been divided into. He said, "Why is it that despite having a wonderful platform like the UN, we have had to have various G platforms? The names of keep changing - G-5, G-7, G-20 etc but what we need is a G-All.” Before ending his speech he stressed on this again. He said t hat the world should target a G-All atmosphere when the United Nations met to celebrate 70 years of its existence.

Advocating Yoga: The PM also sold yoga at the international forum. He said, "Let us think about an International Yoga Day”. Modi hailed yoga as India’s gift to the world and said that it was not just an exercise but a way of life.
