Petroleum refilling depots have resumed operations in Jammu after truckers called off an indefinite strike on Monday and supplies to the Kashmir Valley are likely to be restored on Tuesday.

The Oil Tanker Owners Association was on strike since Saturday evening following mob attacks on oil tanker drivers and cleaners in the restive valley.

The strike was called off after the government assured protection to truck drivers to ensure uninterrupted fuel supplies to the valley, which has been on the boil amid violent protests.

Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, who is in Jammu, said adequate protection would be given to truck operators entering the valley.

Rakesh Gupta, President of the Jammu Chamber of Commerce and Industry told IANS that the office bearers of the Oil Tanker Owners Association and drivers associations would meet the Chief Minister later.

"We are confident that the issue of safety to drivers, attendants and vehicles would be amicably resolved and supplies restored to the valley by tomorrow," Gupta said.
