After 32 yrs, India is hosting World Hindi Conference in Bhopal

Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan appeared in local market of TT Nagar area in Bhopal recently and threw his weight to disseminate messages among traders and businessmen in Bhopal to super scribe signboards in chaste Hindi.

A farmer-turned politician Chouhan had a busy schedule these days to convince his contingent of staff even at district level that it was an opportunity for Bhopal to initiate revival of research in the prime Indian language.

After a long gap of thirty-two years, India is hosting 10th World Hindi conference at Bhopal from September 10-12 this year. It was earlier hosted by Johannesburg, South Africa. The first World Hindi Conference was inaugurated by Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in 1975 at Nagpur.

The 10th conference is based on the theme of 'Hindi Jagat: Vistar avm sambhavnai" (The world of Hindi: expansion and possibilities) which according to a senior government official aims "exploring opportunity in research, jobs and promotion of the prime language in all sectors, the Johannesburg Conference was mainly focused on literature."

Accordingly the three-day conference would have a number of sessions to discuss on use of Hindi in foreign policy, administration, science, information technology, judiciary, children literature, journalism, teaching etc. The conference would also felicitate forty eminent Hindi scholars on the occasion.

As many as 500 eminent Hindi scholars and literary figures from various countries and home would participate in the mega event which would be first after the International Day of Yoga celebrations at Rajpath, New Delhi led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

"After a long gap of thirty-two years World Hindi Conference has come back to India. Our Capital city Bhopal has been given a privilege to host it which reflects that means we have to play a pivotal role. We will leave no stone unturned to make the event a grand success," Manoj Shrivastava, principal secretary, state department of culture told Business Standard.

Chouhan had recently visited Delhi to extend invitation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who will inaugurate the conference and also to external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj, who is the chairperson of the Advisory and Programmes Committee of the conference. The Minister of State for External Affairs V K Singh had recently visited the town to review preparations of the conference. Singh is the chairman of the Management Committee.

Movie star Amitabh Bachchan has also been roped to deliver concluding remark for the conference.
