Yoga has long been known as a holistic medium to achieve health and wellbeing. The Covid-19 pandemic has further put the spotlight on the myriad benefits of yoga.

 

On the occasion of International Day of Yoga on Monday, experts said that practising yoga can boost respiratory health and immunity post Covid.

 

It has been observed that nearly 10 per cent of people diagnosed with Covid-19 experience prolonged symptoms, including breathing trouble, headaches, blood clots, nausea, fatigue and muscle pain which may last for weeks, months, possibly years even after recovery.

Yoga originated in Nepal, not in India, claims PM K P Sharma Oli

As the world celebrates International Yoga Day on Monday, Nepal Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli claimed that yoga originated in his country, not India. Oli also repeated his controversial claim that Lord Rama was born in Nepal.

 

"Much before the existence of India as a nation, yoga was and has been practiced in Nepal," Oli said in his address on the International Yoga Day.

 

"Yoga did not originate in India. When yoga was discovered, India was not constituted. There was no country like India because there were several fringe states when yoga came into practice in Nepal. So Yoga originated in Nepal or around Uttarakhand...," he added. "We never gave credit to our sages who discovered yoga... we always talked about this or that professors and their contributions.

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on Monday said yoga should be popularised and practised even more as it eliminates all diseases and discomforts from lives of people.

 

Addressing a webinar on the 7th International Yoga Day, Gadkari noted that yoga is a science that has unending benefits, a statement from the Ministry of Road, Transport and Highways said.

 

He also pointed out that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has made yoga a global practice and initiated a special global day to make people aware of benefits and significance of yoga.

Delhi Police organises special yoga sessions for its personnel

The Delhi Police on Monday organised special yoga sessions for its personnel deployed across various units on the occasion of seventh International Yoga Day. Delhi Police Commissioner SN Shrivastava posted pictures of him and his wife performing different 'asanas'.

 

"I did my daily Yoga today morning at home. My wife too joined me to observe the 'Yoga Day'," he tweeted from his official Twitter handle.

 

A special yoga session was carried out at the Singhu border where personnel from the Delhi Police and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) units deployed performed various yogic postures, a senior police officer said.

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Monday said that yoga has been included in school curriculum for classes 1 to 10 from the current academic session.

 

He was addressing an event here on the occasion of the International Yoga Day.

 

"...We have included yoga in school curriculum from this year for Classes 1 to 10 so that children make it a part of their daily lives," Khattar said. "Like we need oxygen, food and water, likewise, to keep the body healthy yoga has its own importance. To inculcate the habit of practising yoga and to make it a part of students' lives since childhood, we have decided to include it in school curriculum from this year," he added.
