While all the media houses are standing shoulder to shoulder in condemning the ban on NDTV India, Zee News owner and Essel Group Chairman Subhash Chandra Goel welcomed the move by the government and said a lifetime ban should be imposed on the channel.

In hard-hitting tweets, the Rajya Sabha MP said that no one opposed the proposed ban on Zee during the UPA tenure but today people are condemning the ban on NDTV.

He also asked whether there is no importance to nation's security. "There cannot be two opinions on the nation's security and I fully support the one-day ban on NDTV India," Goel said.

An interministerial panel had concluded that the channel 'NDTV India' had revealed crucial and "strategically sensitive" information when the terror attack on Indian Air Force base at Pathankot was being carried out.

The Information and Broadcasting Ministry while invoking the powers under the Cable TV Networks (Regulation) Act said it "orders to prohibit the transmission or re-transmission of NDTV India channel for one day on any platform throughout India with effect from 12:01 am on November 9 till 12:01 am on November 10".

This is the first ever such order against a TV channel over its coverage of a terror attack, the norms regarding which were notified in 2015.
