Delhi records 1,317 fresh Covid cases, 13 deaths

Delhi on Wednesday reported 1,317 fresh COVID-19 cases with a positivity rate of 2.11 per cent, while 13 more people succumbed to the viral disease, according to data shared by the city health department. With this, the national capital's case count increased to 18,47,515 and the death toll climbed to 26,023, the latest bulletin stated.

 

As many as 62,556 COVID-19 tests were conducted in the city the previous day, it said. Delhi had on Tuesday reported 1,114 COVID-19 cases with a positivity rate of 2.28 per cent and 12 deaths.

 

The number of daily cases in Delhi has been on the decline after touching the record high of 28,867 on January 13. The city had recorded a positivity rate of 30.6 per cent on January 14, the highest during the ongoing wave of the pandemic.

Kerala govt's new 100-day programme aims at more workdays in construction, farm sectors

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Wednesday announced the State government's second 100-day action plan to help tide over the economic slowdown triggered by the third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.

 

The Chief Minister said the plan would be generating more workdays based on the activities, including construction and agriculture, to provide more jobs and hand over 20,000 houses for the poor that were built under the government's Life Mission project, among other things, and would be implemented between February 10 and May 20.

 

May 20 marks one year of the Left government came to power.

GMR Infrastructure narrows loss to Rs 515 cr in Oct-Dec

GMR Infrastructure Ltd on Wednesday reported narrowing of its consolidated net loss to Rs 515.34 crore for the quarter ended in December 2021 against that of Rs 1,120.51 crore in the year-ago period, according to a regulatory filing.

 

The consolidated income from operations in the quarter under review rose to Rs 1,437.84 crore from Rs 963 crore in the same period a year ago.

 

The company's total expenses climbed to Rs 1,387.10 crore in the December quarter as against Rs 1,370.37 crore in the year-ago period.

 

GMR Infrastructure said the operations of the group were impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic and while the management believes that such impacts are short-term in nature and does not anticipate any long-term impact on business prospects considering the recovery was seen in past as well as during the current quarter.

Coronavirus: MP sees 3,226 new cases, five deaths

The COVID-19 tally in Madhya Pradesh rose to 10,16,007 on Wednesday with the detection of 3,226 cases, while the death toll increased to 10,673 after five patients succumbed to the infection, a health department official said.

 

A total of 6,980 people recovered during the day, taking the count of such people in the state to 9,71,950.

 

There are now 33,384 active cases in the state, the official said. The positivity rate of Madhya Pradesh marginally came down to 4.5 per cent from 4.6 per cent registered the previous day, he said. Bhopal and Indore, the two worst-hit cities in the state in terms of the spread of the pandemic, registered 574 and 365 cases, respectively, in the past 24 hours.

Delhi govt says entire pension disbursement process to go online

People would not be made to run from pillar to post to get their hard-earned pension as the Delhi government will be taking the online route for the department's pension disbursement, according to an official statement.

 

"Earlier, this payment could not be made digital due to technical reasons, but the Social Welfare Department held several meetings with the central government, and found its solution. Now there will be no hindrance or delay in pension cases," Delhi Social Welfare Minister Rajendra Pal Gautam said on Tuesday.

 

The first digital payment was made under the programme on the day, he said.
