Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Tuesday, while virtually addressing Canada's Parliament, once again appealed for a no-fly zone over Ukraine and expressed gratitude to Ottawa for support at this time of crisis.
"Can you imagine when you called your friends, your friendly nation, and you ask, 'Please close the sky, close the airspace, please stop the bombing.' How many more missiles have to fall on our cities until you make this happen? And they ... express their deep concerns about the situation. When we talked with our partners, they said, 'Please, hold on, hold on a little longer,'" he said.
"I know you support Ukraine. We've been friends with you ... but also I would like you to understand and I would like you to feel this, what we feel every day. We want to live and we want to be victorious. We want to prevail for the sake of life," Zelensky added.

President Joe Biden on Tuesday is set to sign a bill providing $13.6 billion in additional military and humanitarian aid to Ukraine as part of a $1.5 trillion government spending measure that omits COVID-19 aid the White House says is urgently needed.
The COVID spending was a casualty of negotiations over the larger government bill.
The White House had asked for $22.5 billion for vaccines and treatment, but that was trimmed during talks to $15.6 billion and ultimately dropped altogether as rank-and-file Democrats rebelled against proposed cuts in state aid to pay for the new spending.

Russia's relentless bombardment of Ukraine edged closer to central Kyiv as a series of strikes hit a residential neighbourhood Tuesday, while the leaders of three European Union countries planned a bold visit to Ukraine's capital and the number of people the war has driven from the country passed 3 million.
Large explosions thundered across Kyiv before dawn from what Ukrainian authorities said were artillery strikes, as Russia's assault on the city appeared to become more systematic. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said barrages hit four multi-story buildings in the city and caused dozens of deaths.

The euro rose on Tuesday on hopes of progress in peace talks between Ukraine and Russia, while the U.S. dollar fell ahead of the Federal Reserve policy meeting.
One of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy's top aides said the war would be over by May - and could even end within weeks - as Russia had effectively run out of fresh troops to keep fighting.
Brent futures dropped to their lowest in almost three weeks as Russia indicated it is in favour of the Iran nuclear deal resuming as soon as possible, while ceasefire talks over Ukraine further eased fears of supply disruptions.

The UK government on Tuesday announced a ban on exports to Russia of high-end luxury goods and imposed new import tariffs on key Russian products like vodka as part of a latest wave of economic sanctions in response to the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
Russian vodka is one of the iconic products affected by the tariff increases, while the export ban will also affect luxury vehicles, high-end fashion and works of art.
The British government said the latest measures will cause maximum harm to Russian President Vladimir Putin's war machine while minimising the impact on UK businesses.

They are idealists who abandoned their jobs for the battlefields of Ukraine, looking for a cause or simply to fight.
The Ukrainian president's call for foreign volunteers to join an international brigade to help bolster his country's defence with a new layer of resistance to Russia's invasion is for now a ragtag army. Recruits say they are often waiting for weapons and training, leaving them feeling exposed.
Pure hell: fire, shouting, panic. And a lot more bombs and missiles. That is how Swedish volunteer Jesper Sder described Sunday's attack on Yavoriv, the military training base in western Ukraine pounded by Russian missiles that killed 35 people, according to Ukrainian authorities. Russia said the death toll was much higher.
Sder said he led a group of foreigners including Scandinavians, British and Ameri.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Tuesday said Indian students were positively discouraged by universities in Ukraine from leaving.
In his statement on the situation in the war-torn country, he said that 22,500 Indian citizens have returned safely from Ukraine.
"Despite our efforts, however, a large majority of students elected to continue staying in Ukraine. We must understand the predicament in this regard. There was natural reluctance to leave the educational institutions and affect the studies. Some universities actively discourage and showed reluctance to offer online courses.
