As many as 1,733 candidates have filed their nomination papers in Mysore district for urban local body elections.

Figures show that independents have filed the highest number of nominations with 499, followed by Janata Dal (S) 361, Congress 330, BJP 236, Social Democratic Party 36, CPM 6 and Janata Dal (U) 4. Entering the fray for the first time, B S Yeddyurappa’s KJP has filed 159 candidates, indicating that it is not contesting all the 204 seats.
