At a time when the nation is gripped with the ongoing demonetisation move by the Centre with citizens waiting in serpentine queues at banks and the Prime Minister's decision is coming under attack from all quarters, his 97-year old mother Heeraben today visited a bank branch and exchanged her old notes.

Clad in a white cotton saree and accompanied by relatives Hiraba visited an Oriental Bank of Commerce branch at Raisan village near Gandhinagar on Tuesday morning. She exchanged her old currency notes worth Rs 4,500 in view of the  demonetisation of the high value currency notes. She came in a wheelchair.

Upon receiving the new Rs 2,000 note, she even displayed it in front of mediapersons who had gathered there.

Modi's mother lives in Gandhinagar with her younger son Pankaj Modi in a government housing colony. She is known to take public transport for her travel and has been photographed many a times riding an autorickshaw.
