Business Standard brings you scenes of chaos from across the country as people queued up to swap their old currency notes

There were long queues outside bank branches and automated teller machines (ATMs) on Friday morning, with similar scenes being repeated on Saturday morning.

Cities around the country saw the same scene enacted over and over again, from Kolkata to Amritsar. 

In view of the difficulties faced by the common man in either exchanging the now defunct currency notes or withdrawing the new series of Rs 500 or Rs 2,000 notes, the government on Friday night also extended the deadline till when the old Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes can be used to pay household utility bills, fines, fees, penalties, buy railway tickets etc. (Read more)
