Prime Minister Narendra Modi's mother Heeraben Modi passed away at the age of 100 years on Friday after being briefly admitted to a hospital in Ahmedabad.

Informing about her demise, the Prime Minister posted a heartfelt tweet saying, "A glorious century rests at the feet of God... In Maa, I have always felt that trinity, which contains the journey of an ascetic, the symbol of a selfless Karmayogi and a life committed to values."
Further, PM Modi recalled what his mother told him during his visit on her 100th birthday this year. "When I met her on her 100th birthday, she said one thing, which is always remembered that work with intelligence, live life with purity, that is, work with intelligence and live life with purity," PM Modi tweeted.

After Heeraben was admitted to the hospital, the 'Dharmayatra Mahasangh' in Gujarat's Vadodara had offered prayers at the temple and chanted 'Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra' on Thursday for her 'good health'.

Shri Badrinath-Kedarnath temple in Uttarakhand committee had also offered prayers for her speedy recovery.

Heeraben, who was admitted to the UN Mehta Institute of Cardiology and Research Centre in Ahmedabad on Wednesday was "recovering rapidly" till yesterday and was to be discharged soon, Gujarat Chief Minister's Office (CMO) had said.

Hiraben, also called Hiraba, lived at Raysan village near Gandhinagar city with Modi's younger brother Pankaj Modi. The Prime Mminister regularly visited Raysan and spent time with his mother during his visits to Gujarat.

Meanwhile, PM Modi has left for Ahmedabad, and would be flagging off the Vande Bharat train in Howrah, Kolkata, apart from launching various developmental projects in West Bengal, as per plan, likely through video conferencing, according to ANI sources. He would also take part in the meeting of the National Ganga Council.

Condolences have been pouring in from political leaders.

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel have expressed grief over the demise of PM Modi’s mother Heeraben Modi over Twitter.

Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath and Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan also extended condolences.
