After a record breaking opening day collection (Rs 42 crore across languages), Salman Khan-Soman Kapoor starrer Prem Ratan Dhan Payo (PRDP) maintained a steady pace at the box office raking in Rs 129.77 crore by the end of the four-weekend.

The movie, co-produced by Rajshri Productions and Fox Star Studios, has been directed by Sooraj Barjataya. It was released in 4,600 screens across the country. The film has been released in three languages – Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.

The four-day collection of PRDP has bested Khan’s own record, that of Bajrangi Bhaijaan (Rs 129.65 crore), which released in July this year. Bajrangi Bhaijaan has been Khan’s biggest hit so far, raking in a lifetime collection of Rs 320 crore. Khan now has the top two movies in the highest four day collection list followed by Dhoom 3 (Rs 129.32 crore), Happy New Year (Rs 123.86 crore) and PK (Rs 116.43 crore). PRDP has benefited greatly from the studios’ strategic call of releasing it on a Thursday during the festive Diwali week, giving it a longer weekend of four days.

The film was released in 1,100 screens abroad in traditional overseas markets like UK, US, Midlle East and Australia. The film has grossed Rs 59 crore in the first three days of release (Sunday collections yet to be reported from key territories). This takes the film’s global box office collection to Rs 188.77 crore.

All eyes are now on the lifetime box office collection of the film and whether it will breach the Rs 320 crore mark in India. However, with the festive weekend behind and mixed word of mouth, this may be an uphill task. The film has been made at Rs 120 crore budget and is expected to break even comfortable with overseas collections showing healthy trends.
