Professionals in analytics highest paid in Mumbai: study

Bangalore follows Mumbai with an average salary of Rs 11.34 lakh for these professionals

Analytics professionals in Mumbai are paid up to Rs 11.49 lakh, which makes them the highest paid in the city in this profession. According to the Analytics Placement and Salary Report 2013 by Jigsaw Academy and Analytics India Magazine, Bangalore follows Mumbai with an average salary of Rs 11.34 lakh.

In Mumbai, a majority of the people surveyed fall under the salaried segment of 6-15 Lakh (40%) while only 7% of those surveyed are paid more than Rs 25 lakh. 

The survey also had a comparison of average salaries by years of experience across 4 different types of analytics organizations, like Knowledge Process Outsourcers (KPO), IT companies, In-house unit and Niche Analytics Company. It has been observed that KPO industry offers the highest average salaries of approximately Rs 5.6 lakh at entry level positions when compared to other different types of analytics organisations.

According to the report, there has been a remarkable increase in the demand for analytics professionals and data scientists. There has been an increase in the number of students and professionals eager to gain analytic skills.

Gaurav Vohra, CEO, Jigsaw Academy said, "Students are curious to know about the companies which pay the most, or the least, if the pay scale increases with the years of experience in the analytics industry. Therefore we decided to create a comprehensive guide to analytics salaries in India, which would help both potential employers and employees in the field of analytics."

The report said that India will remain the preferred destination for analytics outsourcing as compared to other Asian countries like Philippines and China. Unlike the BPOs, analytics (considered a part of KPO) requires skills that are not easily available in these countries. It added that India’s analytics talent pool will be in high demand because of their process expertise and English language proficiency. The average salary in for an analytics professional in India is Rs 10.35 lakh.
