Punjab-based Start-up Accelerator Chamber of Commerce (SACC) has plans to set up state-of-the-art start-up hubs in the campuses of technical institutes.

“We have been approached by a number of educational institutes to set up start-up hubs to encourage entrepreneurship and help their students nurture their ideas,” said Manipal Dhariwal, president, SACC.

SACC has signed a memorandum of understanding with Shaheed Udham Singh (SUS) Group of Institutes at Tangori in Punjab to set up a state-of-the-art start-up hub in the campus. This is the first institute in Punjab where the chamber is setting up a start-up hub.

Dhariwal said encouraging entrepreneurship was the core objective of SACC, and in the process, developing a robust enabling ecosystem that could help start-ups to thrive. He further said Punjabis were equipped with the entrepreneurial genes that made them productive risk takers and innovators and the only thing lacking was mentoring, incubating and funding, which the chamber was strategising to plug the holes.

On the tie-up, Sukhwinder Singh Sidhu, chairman of the SUS Group of Institutes said, “The future of our country lies in entrepreneurship and with organisations like this (SACC) there to hand-hold the youngsters with ideas to help them convert these into innovative business solutions, the new generation has a great future to look forward to.”

On being asked about future plans, Manipal informed, “We are setting up our own incubation centre and co-working space for the start-ups at Mohali and an angels’ investors group is in place to seed fund the start-ups.”
