Mumbai Police summon Alok Agarwal to record his statement as a witness in the Jhanvi Gadkar hit and run case that killed two people

Reliance Industries has informed the Bombay Stock Exchange that the company's Chief Financial Officer, Alok Agarwal, has received summons from the Mumbai Police in the matter concerning the road accident involving lawyer Jhanvi Gadkar.

"This is being disclosed to the stock exchanges as he is a key managerial personnel," RIL said in a statement.

Jhanvi Gadkar, a lawyer with Reliance Industries, was allegedly involved in a road accident on the Mumbai Expressway late on Monday night. On Friday, Gadkar was placed in judicial custody for fourteen days .

The 35 -year old lawyer had crashed her Audi Q3 car into a taxi, killing two people and injuring three.  

Media reports said Gadkar might have visited a second pub, where she also consumed alcohol. Police are examining the CCTV footage from the pub concerned whose waiters are also to be questioned.

Reports added that during questioning, Gadkar said she had visited a restaurant and met her colleagues, where she consumed two pegs of whiskey to celebrate a new project. Later she slept inside her car at the Marine Drive for two hours to get sober.

Tests showed Gadkar's blood samples had three times the permitted level of alcohol on the day of the accident. Under the Motor Vehicles Act, 30 ml of alcohol is the permissible limit for driving.

The police suspect Gadkar drove about 11 kilometres in the wrong lane before she crashed into the taxi. Witnesses said the car was travelling at a very high speed with blaring music.
