Sushma slams Rahul over land Bill remark

Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj Wednesday hit back at Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi for saying that the opposition opposed the land acquisition Bill in Parliament.

"Mr. Rahul Gandhi, please have courage and speak the truth," Sushma Swaraj tweeted.

The BJP leader quoted Gandhi's comment in his Aligarh rally in which he said the opposition had opposed the land bill.

"While speaking on the bill, Shri Jairam Ramesh told the Lok Sabha on (Aug 29): 'I would like to convey my special thanks to leader of opposition because in the two all-parties meetings, it appeared that we will not be able to move any further. But she found the solution and we are discussing the bill in the house today'," she said.

The Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Bill, 2013 became a law last month.

The law aims to provide fair compensation to those whose land is taken away, brings transparency to the process of land acquisition to set up factories or buildings and assures generous compensation and rehabilitation of those affected by land takeover.
