A recent survey has ranked Tamil Nadu at first position among preferred states for working women in India.

India Skills Report 2016, an initiative by Wheebox, a global talent assessment company, has come out with the ranking. It was done in association with Confederation of Indian Industry, LinkedIn, PeopleStrong and Association of Indian Universities.

Tamil Nadu is followed by Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Haryana, Andhra Pradesh, Delhi, Gujarat, Kerala, Karnataka, and Punjab among the 29 states and seven Union Territories (UTs) surveyed.

The results are part of the Wheebox Employability Skill Test assessment of 500,000 people on 5,000 educational campuses across states and UTs on various employability parameters --- numerical and logical ability, communication skills, domain knowledge, etc.

The report says a test result of 60% and above ranks as employable. About 34% of the test takers from Tamil Nadu were in this category; the national average was 38%.

Tamil Nadu is closely followed by Delhi at second place with 45% of employable workforce in the 18-21 age group. It has lost its top-10 position from the 2015 survey for employable workforce in the 22-25, and 26-29 years age groups. Gender-wise, 50% males and 67% of the females in Tamil Nadu were employable. The national average was 40% females scoring 60% and above, in comparison to 36% of males.

The study shows an upward trend in hiring across the country.
