Sanjay Sharma, an AC and motor binding mechanic, and Sunil Kumar, a machine operator, were arrested on October 13 by a special team of Crime Branch from near Kala Mata Mandir on the Outer Ring Road at Rohini Sector 3.
600 fake coins of the face value of Rs 10 were recovered from the two and on their instance another 200 coins as well as the machinery and raw materials used for making the currency were recovered from a factory at Peeragarhi here where the counterfeiting operation was allegedly going on, police said.
As per the police, its Crime Branch had received secret inputs about a syndicate of fake coins racketeers operating clandestinely and circulating fake coins in Delhi and national capital region (NCR).
On October 13, a tip was received that two persons, namely Sanjay and Sunil, would come near Kali Mata Mandir, Outer Ring Road, Sector 3, Rohini, Delhi to supply fake coins and a trap was laid for them, police said.
After their arrest, their sustained interrogation revealed that the fake coin syndicate was being run by them with the help of one Naresh Kumar, who was recently arrested and was presently in judicial custody in Tihar jail.
Naresh, who is 42-years-old and originally a resident of Charkhi Dadri in Haryana, had shifted to Rohini, Delhi and in November 2015 had installed a factory in Bawana to make counterfeit coins with the help of one Sonu, police said and added that Sonu was instrumental in arranging raw material for minting fake coins and for circulating them.
According to the cops, both the accused were dragged into business of making fake coins by Naresh.
Police has also said that members of the syndicate used to change their hideouts and descriptions frequently to conceal their identity and to avoid arrest.
"Investigation of the case is in progress and efforts are being made to trace the remaining sources and its local receivers, who are involved in circulation of fake coins in Delhi, NCR and other parts of the country," a senior police official said.
