The Eurppean Union (EU) Terrorism Situation and Trend Report last month had revealed that Britain's controversial foreign and military policy has made UK the hub of Islamic terrorism across Europe, and turned the country into a fertile ground for jihadist recruiters.
The report stated that British foreign policy presented critical dangers for all Europe, "The conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq have a large impact on the security environment of the EU."
Now a "deradicalisation" programme is being developed by the Labour government to tackle people who have been drawn into Islamist extremism in Britain.
British Home Secretary Jacqui Smith said the aim of the "deradicalisation" strategy was to halt people from getting involved in extremist violence.
"Only by working together and building on our shared values can we prevent terrorism in the first place. We are investing at local level to build resilient communities, which are equipped to confront violent extremism, and support the most vulnerable individuals," Smith was quoted as saying by a daily.
The new strategy document on preventing violent extremism published today confirms for the first time an attempt within Whitehall to map the UK by the religious denominational background of the population, to better comprehend where radicalisation is taking place.
