The Congress-led UPA government after coming to power in the beginning itself has sent wrong signals by withdrawing POTA and not enacting an alternative act to tackle terrorist violence, Naidu told reporters here.

There were 24 major terrorist attacks in the country during last three years targetting almost all the states, the BJP leader said.

It was lack of political will of the Central government and its vote bank politics which was giving opportunity to terrorism to raise its head, he charged.

Instead of tackling the situation effectively, the Central government has been giving communal colour to the incidents occurred anywhare in the country for its vote bank politics, Naidu said.

There was a need for a tough act on the lines of POTA and co-operation between the Centre and State governments to tackle the situation, he said.

The State government alone can not tackle the terrorism on its own as it was not an ordinary law and order situation.

The terrorism was aided and abetted from across the border and it was a deep rooted conspiracy to destablise and cripple the country's economy, Naidu said.

Alleging that Prime Minister Manohan Singh and Home Minister Shivraj Patil making bland statements whenever blasts occurred in the country, he said adding that merely sending advisory notes to the states terrorism menance could not be tackled.
