300 Isps Set To Lose Rs 120 Crore As Bank Guarantees

Bank guarantees worth about Rs 120 crore submitted by 300 Internet service providers (ISPs) is likely to get forfeited soon as a majority of ISPs have not started services despite being issued licences.

ISP operators are issued licence on the condition that they will start operations within 18 months of issuance of the license by the government.

As per the data available, the government has issued licences to 437 service providers since 1998, but of them only 98 (22 per cent) have started operations.
