The government has announced the release of 50,000 tonne of onions for export with effect from October 10. The shipment period of the unutilised balance quantity of the onions released for export in June and July has also been extended till October 15, 2001.
In a statement issued today, the commerce department said Karnataka State Cooperative Marketing Federation Ltd. (KSCMF) has been notified as the additional canalising agency for export of Bangalore Rose Onion in addition to the Karnataka Agricultural Produce Processing and Export Corporation (KAPPEC).
The canalising agencies for the export of 50,000 tonne of onions - allowed for export till November 30, 2001 - include National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India Ltd (17,500 tonne), Maharashtra State Agricultural Marketing Board (17,500 tonne), Gujarat Agro Industries Corporation Ltd (5,000 tonne), Spices Trading Corporation Ltd (2,000 tonne), AP-State Trading Corporation (2,500 tonne), KSCMF (2,000 tonne), National Cooperative Consumers' Federation of India Ltd (2,500 tonne) and North Karnataka Onion Growers Cooperative Society (1,000 tonne).
The exports would be subject to conditions of minimum export Price and payment of a refundable deposit.
