The Kerala government, which had opened up the higher education sector to private enterprises last year, has sanctioned the setting up of seven new self-financing professional colleges during this academic year.

They consist of three engineering colleges, two master of business administration (MBA) colleges, and two master in computer application (MCA) colleges.

This is in addition to the 114 self-financed professional colleges started last academic year.

The three engineering colleges sanctioned are Matha College of Technology in North Parur, Sree Narayana College of Engineering in Payanur and Royal College of Engineering and Technology in Thrissur.
