Bangalore all set to host Indiawood '06

300 firms from 16 countries are taking part in the five-day expo

The fourth edition of Asia's largest woodworking machinery exposition "" Indiawood 2006 "" will open today (Thursday) at the Bangalore Palace Grounds. The expo, which will be on till February 20, will showcase Rs 500 crore worth of woodworking machinery.
 
As many as 300 woodworking machinery makers from 16 countries including Germany, Italy, Malaysia, Taiwan and Spain will display their products at the exhibition, organised by European Federation of Woodworking Machinery Manufacturers and PDA Trade Fairs. Karnataka chief minister H D Kumaraswamy will inaugurate the exhibition.
 
The exhibition is expected to attract over 60,000 business visitors. Leading trade bodies like VDMA, the German Engineering Federation, the American Hardwood Export Council, the Italian Woodworking Machinery Manufacturers Association are participating in the expo, said Gianni Ghizzoni, president, Eumobois.
 
The most advanced machinery, tools, fittings and accessories required for woodworking industry will be on display.
 
"We are very excited about the entry of the US, Brazil, Japan, China and South Korea at the Indiawood 2006. We expect at least $100 million worth of business at the fair which has generated a huge interest both at home and abroad," said Pradeep Devaiah, chairman & CEO of PDA Trade Fairs, the co-sponsors of the event.
 
A Brazilian consortium of timber exporters are showcasing their product range at the exhibition. A large number of furniture designers and manufacturers' associations from Malaysia, Singapore, Sri Lanka are also participating. With 41 exhibitors and over 2000 square metres of floor space, the German group stand will be the biggest.
 
One of the main objectives at the exhibition is to showcase bamboo and its applications in furniture manufacture. Bamboo-based products designed by professionals from leading furniture makers from across the globe will be on display.
